The Secret Garden

                                                                           Hello everyone,

I hope you are enjoying your week.
We have been busy here but I am loving
being out in the garden in this beautiful
                                                             sunny weather.
Today, I thought you might like to see
our little secret garden which is tucked
in behind our barn and enclosed on the
other sides by trees and fences.
So, let's go through the arbor built by
                                                              my husband several years ago.

A Preston lilac on the right is in bloom
and on the left are roses, hardy geranium
                                                                   lady's mantle and hostas.

                                                                   A new jackmani clematis with
Nelly Noser on the other side.

                                                                   Peeking through the garden gate.

The old cast iron stove on the right
was a road side find several years ago
and it makes a good planter now.

I love this little secret garden when the
                                                                 white Magician Deutiza are blooming.
                                                                There are four of them.

                                                            Tucked into the climbing hydrangea
is a water fountain adding a gentle
                                                            sound of water cascading down.
Every year we have  robins that build
their nest in the vine. Some years finches
nest in the deutizas as well.

You can see Martha(our statue) at
the back and if you look closely you can
see there is a mirror in behind her adding
interest to the garden. Virginia creeper is
                                                                     growing around her.

It has filled up nicely in here since the
                                                               spring.

                                                                  The peonies are popping daily
                                                                  and you might remember that
I have a passion for peonies so
we have over one hundred and
thirty of them. My Dad gave me my
first ones over 25 years ago and I
wish I could tour the garden with
him now. He passed away 21 years
                                                                  ago.
                                                                       Touches of whimsy in the
                                                                        garden.
                                                           There's Martha carrying those
jugs of water for the garden.

I hope you enjoyed a little
tour of our secret garden on
          this beautiful sunny day.
I have been taking lots of
garden photos so all I need
is a little free time to post
them.

If you would like to see an
         elegant white lunch in this
       garden  check it out here.

      Thank you for visiting,

Carolyn

Sunday Garden Tour

                                                                             Sunday Blessings,

I hope you are enjoying a lovely
Sunday afternoon. It is a beautiful
sunny summer day here and the
                                                               garden is changing from morning
to evening as so many perennials
                                                               are starting to bloom including
our peonies which now add up to
over 130 spread around the garden.

                                                                         Lupins , peonies and iris.

                                                                   Roses and deutizas and
                                                                   Dame's Rocket.
                                                                           Lupins in the garden.

Nymph peonies with Ladies Mantle etc.

Snow in Summer around the fountain.

I love this dark showy iris
but I don't remember the name.

       Pretty  garden vignette

        The Gardener's Cottage

Just a quick peek at some garden vignettes
but this evening I plan to take a few more
                                                             shots around the garden.
However, now the bed on the porch is
calling my name and the fragrance of
the Miss Kim lilac and the honeysuckle
by the porch is simply amazing!

                                                                                    Thanks for your visit!

(8 of 9) Growing Tomatoes & Peppers: Side Dressing, Pruning, Suckers, Removing Leaves, Sprays

(8 of 9) Growing Tomatoes & Peppers:
Side Dressing, Pruning, Suckers, Removing Leaves, Sprays

Video #8 of 9 gets your tomatoes and peppers ready for growth and production. I show you how I remove bottom leaves from my peppers and talk about fertilizing them. They don't need much. I also show you how I stake, prune and remove suckers from tomato plants. I explain what a production stem is and discuss why you may want to manage stems on your tomatoes. I also show you how to side dress tomatoes with fertilizer and lime.

(7 of 9) Growing Tomatoes & Peppers: Prevention, Splash Barrier, Aspirin & Sprays, Planting

(7 of 9) Growing Tomatoes & Peppers:
Prevention, Splash Barrier, Aspirin & Sprays, Planting

In video #7 I talk about disease prevention. Mulch is used for moisture and weeds but also as a disease splash barrier. Bottom pruning leaves helps create a disease barrier. Slugs are treated with Iron phosphate and I plant my indeterminate tomatoes. Finally I talk about Aspirin spray (which really works) for bolstering you tomato plant's defenses. Baking soda makes a great anti-fungal.

Inside the Boathouse

       Hello everyone,

Hope your week is going well.
In my previous post I shared
a picnic on the Boathouse porch.
But, shortly after it clouded over
so I moved my little picnic inside.

This little nook is one of
my favorite spots to curl up
                                                                   and relax.
                  Cupcakes for tea.

                                                                          A pretty bouquet of lilacs
                                                                          in a vintage vase.

My daughters gave me  the soft throw
and a couple of the big pillows.
The Relax you 're on Island Time
pillow was from a small local shop
                                                                            that has since closed down.....I
have had a few inquiries about it.
The sailboats came from Wicker Emporium
                                                                             a few years ago.
So, peaceful! Today for the first
time we had a mama duck and at
least a dozen tiny ducklings up
near our house when we came home.
Alas, in spite of running into the house
at breakneck speed for my camera they
has hustled down to the woods before I
get a photo of them. There is a brook
in the woods where they must have been
going. Hopefully, I will get another chance
                                                                        as they where so cute!
This nook is the perfect spot to watch
the ducks and geese on the pond.

                Back to our picnic.

I hope you enjoyed a casual picnic in
                                                          our Boathouse.

Thank you for joining me today and
I hope you have a great weekend!

Picnic on the Boathouse Porch

Hello everyone,,

A few days ago on a beautiful calm
evening I thought it would be nice
to enjoy a picnic on the Boathouse
porch.

It was very calm so the Boathouse relected
perfectly in the pond.

Before our picnic we need to
take a walk around the pond
to admire the lupins.

I loaded up a big tray with our
picnic goodies.

            A sandwich and some sweet
           treats along with lemonade
and a cup of tea.

Pretty china and a bouquet
of lilacs set the mood
for a light picnic.

Cucumber and tomato
sandwiches always hit
the spot for a casual picnic.

               Go ahead and help yourself!

Sandwiches on a pretty
transferware plate.

After enjoying a picnic we can
sit by the pond and enjoy the
rest of the evening. It is so peaceful
here enjoying nature and of course
good company!

                 Thanks for your visit!

                              Carolyn
