Restful Spaces

Happy Weekend,

It is a lovely sunny day here and I
plan to enjoy a bit of relaxation this
afternoon as we have had a busy week.
I have a little stack of books from the
library and I am looking forward to
delving into them.
I took a few shots this morning of
our bedroom upstairs.

The lace around the bed
are crochet valances and I
made the long curtains from semi
sheer cotton fabric.....a thrift find
of course!

I got a pair of these lamps at
our local Homesense recently.
The shades are grey so they match
the Revere Pewter on the walls.

My lace dress for summer.

I changed the window curtains in

here when I did my spring cleaning.

They were lace panels before.

A little vignette in the
sunroom off our bedroom.

It feels so much like spring/summer
in here with the sun streaming in and some
plants blooming on the windowsills.

I am off to our Boathouse with my book
for awhile.....just being lazy I know!

The Gardener's Cottage

Hello everyone,

I hope you week is going well. I don't
have any new photos to share with you
as the garden has not yet reached the beauty
of the shot above but the daffodils just need a
few warm days until they burst into bloom and
the tulips won't be far behind.
So, I thought you might like to revisit our
little Gardener's Cottage which is nestled
into our garden.

We had this cottage built several years
ago and used recycled material for it
wherever possible. The windows in the cupola
for example used to be on our house when
we first moved here.

The inside of the Gardener's Cottage
is mainly white so I can easily change
the look with quilts,china etc.
My husband built the corner cupboard
for me and I enjoy displaying my thrift
store china on it.

The toile slipcover on the chair
was a lucky thrift find...I am a
fan of toile.

These shots were taken in lilac season
a few years ago. I am looking forward to
the pleasure of lilacs again.

My thrift store dollhouse( $20 )
spends the summer out here and
has been well used by our grand
daughters.I have painted the roof grey
since this photo was taken.

This is the other side of the room.
It has no kitchen or washroom but
is a peaceful retreat for a tired
gardener or a fun sleepover spot
for the kiddo's.

Behind the Gardener's Cottage
it is tea time.

Or on the south end outside the
french doors is a small rose
garden with the chaise to relax
while enjoying the beauty and
fragrance of the roses.

Well, I hope you enjoyed a little
peek into the Gardener's Cottage
and after it gets a spring cleaning
I will share some new photos of it.

Spring Cleaning in the Boathouse

Hello everyone,

It has been lovely here the last couple
of days so there is a lot of spring cleaning
going on here.......mostly in the garden now
but I have started to spring clean the Boathouse
as well.

It will have much the same look
as last year with a few small changes.

I love the soft aqua look in
this little nook. I love to watch
the pair of geese and pair of ducks
swimming around the pond from here.

While I was cleaning the downstairs
my granddaughter Jessica(10 yrs. old)
was busy in the loft of the Boathouse
tidying up her favorite spot.

Now, after all that cleaning
it is tea time.

The garden is changing almost
daily now and it is so nice to see
little pops of color as we clean up
the beds.
When, I get tired of raking I am
going to finish my spring cleaning
in the Boathouse ~ a change is as
good as a rest!

Afternoon Tea with Students

Hello everyone,

I had some university students come for

afternoon tea today so as I was setting

the table I thought I should take

a few shots to share with you.

I decided to go with the cream and pink

rosebud theme....the Alpine white

Ironstone from England.

The teapot is a Sadler also
made in England.

I made a blueberry coffee cake

for us to enjoy with tea.

These lovely young ladies are a long way
from their home and two of them leave
the Island shortly.

Well, it was a lovely afternoon tea time

Aiken House & Gardens & Romantic Country!

Hello everyone,

I was really excited to pick up a copy of

the newest Romantic Country magazine

and see our little Boathouse featured as

well as some of my summer garden shots.

So, come into the sun room and enjoy

a cup of tea while we enjoy the spring

flowers and a peek through this lovely

magazine.

I love this pretty porch on

Now, for our Boathouse! I am
so proud of my husband and son for
building this little retreat with recycled
materials etc. ~ it is the perfect place to
relax and enjoy life's simple pleasures.

Can't wait until we can enjoy
our meals in the garden again.

This week I plan to do some
